Nadia Hallgren is an award-winning Director and Cinematographer. Nadia both shot and directed the documentary Becoming, about former First Lady Michelle Obama, which was released on Netflix. The film was nominated for four Emmys including Best Director, Best Cinematographer and Best Documentary Feature, which saw Nadia breaking an Emmy record as the first person to receive Directing and Cinematography nominations for the same project. Becoming is the fifth most watched Documentary ever on Netflix. Nadia’s After Maria, tells the story of three mothers displaced by Hurricane Maria. It was shortlisted for an Academy Award in the Short Film Category. Nadia also won the special jury prize at SXSW 2018 for She’s the Ticket. Nadia won Best Director at the Sundance Brand Storytelling Awards 2021 for her Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show documentary The Show, featuring the Weeknd. At the NAACP Image Awards 2021 she was awarded Outstanding Directing in a Documentary for her work directing an episode of HBO’s Black and Missing. Her cinematography credits include the Sundance award-winner Motherland, Academy Award-nominated and Sundance Grand Jury Prize-winner Trouble the Water, and Sundance award-winner Trapped. Nadia’s latest feature documentary Civil premiered at Tribeca Film Festival in June 2022, following Civil Rights Attorney Benjamin Crump as he represents the families of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and more. A native of The Bronx and a graduate of the International Center of Photography, Nadia is also a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
