Melina McDonald is the co-founder of Darling Films, launched with Lorraine Smit in 2014. Together, they’ve built a 100% female-owned company that’s consistently ranked the #1 production house in South Africa and the MEA regionby the Loeries and Little Black Book’s Immortal Awards, and voted best in production excellence for multiple years.
With a background in high-end commercial production, McDonald has produced award-winning work for top local and global brands. She’s passionate about bold storytelling, creative collaboration, and nurturing emerging talent.
Under her leadership, Darling has developed a strong roster of female directors and earned top industry honours, including Cannes Lions and Loeries Grand Prix. In 2021, McDonald and Smit were inducted into the Loeries Hall of Fame for their ongoing impact on the industry.
