Gaopalelwe (Gaopie) Kabe began her cinematography career in 2004 as a trainee loader, gaining invaluable hands-on experience under some of South Africa’s most esteemed cinematographers, camera operators, focus pullers, gaffers, and key grips.
The path to success was built step by step—advancing from camera trainee to loader (with the privilege of working with film), then to first assistant camera, and eventually to camera operator for both international and local cinematographers. She takes pride in the essence of rising through the ranks in the industry.
Today, she is an award-winning cinematographer working on international and local films and series, with a growing interest in commercial work. Her work can be found on various platforms and networks including Netflix, Prime, HBO, BET.
