Design & Animation Director, Hend & Lamiaa
Hend Esmat and Lamiaa Diab, in short: Hend & Lamiaa, are a design & animation directing duo. They create motion graphics, short films, explainers, TV commercials, and have designed for children’s books and TV series. Their work is all about telling heartfelt stories, shedding light on important subject matters and spreading knowledge through colourful visuals and quirky relatable characters.
Sharing a passion for storytelling, they strongly believe in the power of animation as a medium in tackling diverse genres, from lighthearted topics to more serious ones. After more than a decade of collaboration they have become like two peas in a pod who can effortlessly read each other’s thoughts and push each other forward!
Born and raised in Cairo, they moved to the UK to pursue an MA in Animation in Bristol. Since then, they’ve worked across the UK and Egypt with global clients, taught at universities, and led talks and workshops at international festivals.
Hend & Lamia’s list of clients include: Google, Facebook, BBC, MG, The School of Life, Merck for Mothers & Gromit Unleashed Trail.
Their commission for SARSAS, in collaboration with Rumpus Animation, was selected for a Public Choice Award in the 2020 British Animation Awards. Their short film Flipped was screened in over 30 festivals worldwide, receiving the 2019 Best Animation Film award in Overcome Festival (US) , special mention in Anima (Cordoba) as well as Vimeo “Staff Pick” and “Best of the Month” badges.
