GijsvandenBerg

Creative Director, KesselsKramer

Gijs van den Berg is Creative Director and Partner of communications agency KesselsKramer, the independent advertising agency established in 1996 that Time magazine described as "legendary and unorthodox". He joined the partnership in 2018 after working at the agency since 2009.

Based in Amsterdam and working internationally, Gijs leads creative development and innovation at an agency renowned for breakthrough campaigns including the iconic "I Amsterdam" city branding and "The Worst Hotel in The World" for Hans Brinker Budget Hotel. Under his creative direction, KesselsKramer developed work for brands including ARTE, Greenpeace, Casetify, Esporão and CitizenM.

As a multidisciplinary creative, Gijs brings expertise across advertising, branding, design, and digital communications. His approach centers on making sure the work has an edge and fights against the mainstream, embodying KesselsKramer's philosophy of creating "advertising for people who don't like advertising".

Recent notable projects include developing the "Common Ground" narrative theme for the Netherlands' participation in Expo 2025 Osaka, and the official identity and campaign to mark 80 years of freedom after WWII in the Netherlands.

Beyond his agency work, Gijs is also active as a photographer and plays in a punk rock band.
